In-line DSL Filter w/ Splitter Review

In-line DSL Filter w/ Splitter
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
At first I thought it was a splitter for two phone lines, but instead I found out it was for one line to the phone and a pass through line to the DSL what I was able to do next to my PC was install the splitter in my RJ-45 Phone Module then attach my phone line that went to my DSL modem. On the DSL side of the splitter afterwards I placed a two way adapter on the phone side of the splitter and ran a phone line to my PC modem and another line to my All-In-One Printer.
Everything works GREAT. Also to top everything else off I ordered these items on the 22nd of Nov. in PA and received them on the 23rd, I was shocked. This company goes beyond the call of duty for their respected clients.

3049 Data/Fax Modem - Serial - 1 x RJ-11 Phone Line, 1 x RS-232 Serial - 56 Kbps Review

3049 Data/Fax Modem - Serial - 1 x RJ-11 Phone Line, 1 x RS-232 Serial - 56 Kbps
Average Reviews:

I bought the Zoom 3049 external serial faxmodem to connect to a Digi 4 port serial-to-USB adapter on our faxserver. I currently have 4 older Boca modems connected to it, but one of the modems is starting to get a little flaky. The Zoom 3049 seemed to have good reviews as a faxmodem, so I thought I'd buy one to test it out. The only problem that I have with the Zoom 3049 is the way the driver is installed. It will not recognize the serial ports on the USB adapter, and a manual installation is looking for an "inf" file (which the Zoom 3049 doesn't have). Older drivers have an "inf" file, but this one simply has an "exe" executable that contains "dll"s. The only thing that I could do was install it on the on-board serial port. Other than that, it's been pretty reliable.

Novatel MiFi 2200 Mobile Wi-Fi Modem (Verizon Wireless) Review

Novatel MiFi 2200 Mobile Wi-Fi Modem (Verizon Wireless)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have had a Verizon Wireless MiFi Broadband Router for about weeks now and felt it was time to share my real world experiences and thoughts on the device. In three words: IT IS GREAT!
What is it? It is basically a Verizon Wireless EVDO card in a small casing that acts as a Wi-FI Router and allows for 5 simultaneous devices to connect to it.
How does it work? The MiFi is like any other router, on the underside of it you will find a SSID and a WPA Security key so you can connect any of your devices to it via wi-fi. If you dont have a device with wi-fi y ou can plug it into your computer via usb and use the VZAccess Manager software to gain connectivity.
How big or small is it? Simply put, it is the size of a Kit-Kat bar.
Battery Life? I charged it fully for testing purposes and connected my blackberry 8900 and iPhone 3g to it. My commutes are usualy about 4 hours round trip per day and thus this was the best way to test the device. I enabled streaming stock quotes on the blackberry and browsed using my iPhone for the entire time to really put it through its paces. Real world is after heavy usage about 5 hours of battery life. This will of course change based on coverage areas and the such.
Speed? This is where the MiFi shines - I must say I was impressed. Since there is no easy way to do a speed test from a mobile device, I simply connected my laptop to it via wi-fi and did 4-5 speed tests in different locations to make them as accurate as possible. The average speed is about 1.75mbits down and close to 800kbps up. Impressive to say the least...especially in remote parts of New Jersey and while moving in a vehicle. (Someone else was driving :-))
I am no stranger to mobile connectivity. The MiFi is a truly amazing device and its size alone makes it a MUST BUY! The ability to have wi-fi on all mobile devices via EVDO and not having to worry about connecting cards and cables is truly AMAZING.
Why then does it get a 4/5 - Simple - No unlimited data plans mean we have to keep our eyes on our usage and we may go over if we are not careful...especially because its so easy to get connected.

Frequently Asked Questions How is the MiFi2200 different from other Mobile Broadband USB, PC Card and ExpressCardmodems? There are significant differences between MiFi2200 and other devices, primarily because it connects multiple devices to Mobile Broadband over Wi-Fi. The other modems require a physical connection, and may only be used with one notebook at a time. Further, MiFi2200 connects not just notebook computers, it can connect to Wi-Fi enabled devices, such as cameras, gaming devices, digital photo frames and more.
How is this different from a Router? The MiFi2200 is an Intelligent Mobile Hotspot that can operate as a USB Modem (with a USB Cable) or in Wi-Fi/BatteryMode, eliminating the need for a wired connection or an AC connection. Its lightweight, slim and compact features, make this the ultimate mobile hotspot.
What kind of security is available? MiFi2200 supports all the latest WEP/WPA/WPA-2 security and SPI firewall. It is recommended that security is set up in order to prevent unauthorized use.
When do I need to use the USB Cable? The USB Cable is required when MiFi2200 is used as a USB Modem and for first time setup and activation with VZAccess Manager. The cable can be used to connect after activation if MiFi2200 is out of battery power and there is no access to AC power. The cable can also be used for charging, but only when the device is dormant and not in an active data session.

3.5mm Stereo Male / 3.5mm Stereo Male, 2 ft Review

3.5mm Stereo Male / 3.5mm Stereo Male, 2 ft
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I had ordered a 6' cable from another dealer at the same price as the pictured 2' cable. My only purpose was to connect an iPod to a portable speaker. My results were immediately wildly erratic. I was able to get a semi-clear audio signal only after extremely careful manipulation of the pin in the iPod jack, followed by periods of holding my breath so as not to disrupt the connection. My first inclination was to condemn the player, but then I remembered a recent experience with the HDMI cords connected to a Sony TV. The picture went on and off whenever someone walked into the room, causing my wife and me to condemn the TV set or the Time-Warner cable box. But then I exchanged the heavy-duty, thick HDMI cable for a thinner, lightweight HDMI cable--immediately, all problems with my television set were eliminated.
Exactly the same happened when I tossed the new 6' 3.5mm audio cable for the pictured 2' one. No fine-tuning required. Simply snap one end into the iPod, the other into the stereo speaker unit, and the communication between them was instant, complete, and secure.
I notice that different dealers sell this cable, which may or may not make a difference (for the record, my cable came from Cable Showcase/PC Part Store). The point is that, contrary to the assertions of some reviewers, all cables are not equal: it's not simply a matter of buying the cheapest version of the type of cable you require. Besides the cable itself, there's the more complicated matter of the pin with its stereo bands and the requirement of a precise and tight connection with the weight equally distributed on the entire surface of that tiny pin. The least bit of miscalculation on the part of the cable maker, and your pricey gadget could be rendered worthless, at least practically speaking.

It's an ethernet crossover cable. It's CAT6, but I've only tested it between a 10/100/1000 NIC and a netbook with 10/100 ethernet. Transfer speeds for single, large files hovered around 11MBps, compared to the 1MBps I was getting over 802.11N.
Bottom line:
The cable I got was ORANGE!

Buffalo Technology AirStation High Power N300 Gigabit Wireless Router and AP WZR-HP-G300NH (Black)
Average Reviews:

Pros:
Excellent Range - even with existing Wireless G clients
Gigabit ethernet ports
Network Attached Storage
VPN Endpoint
Excellent web interface with help along the right column
Our house is like a wireless black hole. We have tried multiple Wireless G routers and cannot get a strong signal throughout the house. If the router is in the center of the house, we usually get a 11 mbps connection from our Wireless G clients. If we put the router at one end of the house, we do not get a signal at the other corner. We don't live in a huge house by the way. With this router, we get a full strength signal through the house, regardless of whether it is placed in the center or in one corner. I assume it's due to high gain antennas plus the built-in power amplifier. The range of our Wireless-G network has been extended greatly without even having to upgrade our computers to Wireless-N adapters. Most Wireless-N routers transmit in the 100 mW range (e.g. Linksys WRT610N, D-Link DIR-825). This router transmits above 800 mW, close to the legal limit of 1000 mW. You can look up the transmit power of all routers on the FCC web site. Excellent product!
Update on September 1, 2009: Buffalo has confirmed a bug in the router. It sometimes loses the ability to connect to wireless clients. It seems to happen to me once every 1-2 weeks. I have to reboot the router to correct. They assured me that the first firmware update will correct it. The significant speed and range improvement for me makes it worth dealing with this minor issue.
Also, a positive review from Small Net Builder (formerly Tom's Hardware): [...]
Update on October 29, 2009: Updated firmware (v1.65) is available on the Buffalo Technology website. My router is running it, and so far I have not seen any issues.

I found this product while looking for a way to split the LAN at my job into two. We get one ethernet cord running to our desk and that's it. I was worried that my company would have some kind of block to not allow this to happen (they don't allow streaming video, audio, etc... so they block a lot of things). I found the unit on sell (about half price) and decided it was worth the price to try it. I tried it at home at first and it worked great (I have a router at home, so don't really need this at home, but just wanted to make sure it worked at home so if it didn't at the office, then I'd know it wasn't the device). I unplugged the ethernet from one computer, plugged this in and plugged in two computers. So, basically, there was one ethernet cord going from the router to the TRENDnet box and two computers branched off from there. Worked great - no set up needed, just plug-n-play. So, now for the big test: I took it to work. Worked with no big problems - same plug-n-play. The only thing is that when I plug my computer directly to the work LAN, it says the connection at 1 GBPS, but through this device, it shows up as 100 MBPS. I can't really tell any problems so far with speed - everything is working as normal, but now I have online access on both my work computer and my laptop. So, for me, this device works as advertised and meets my needs.
PS - sorry for my non-technical review, but I'm no tech expert!
PPS - don't forget you'll need an additional ethernet cord to make this connection. I didn't think of it at first, but luckily remembered before I finished my transaction and was able to pick up a cheap 3-footer.

Installed the configuration software, plugged it in, and it worked immediately. I am using it with WinXP Service Pack 2, and it communicates great with a complex serial interface to an unusual piece of electronics I have, so its very compatible with "real" serial ports, unlike some other adapters I have tried that seem to only work with modems or PDA docks. The adapter as shipped is actually a small 1"x1.5"x3" box connected to your computer with a 3' USB cable that can be unplugged from it. It has a green LED on top to tell you when it is properly configured as well as when a program has opened that serial port and when it is passing data. Very functional and easy to use; the configuration software even includes tests to make sure the device is recognized and is properly communicating with your computer. The configuration software also ensures that the same COM port is assigned to the device, no matter which USB port on your computer you plug it into each time, unlike previous adapters I've had which created a different COM port each time you plugged the device into a different USB port (very annoying); the driver also has an option to behave like those other drivers, but most people will probably want to always have it act like the same COM port, the default.

ZyXEL WAP3205 Wireless N access point, Ethernet client, and universal repeater Review

ZyXEL WAP3205 Wireless N access point, Ethernet client, and universal repeater
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Once you have it setup it works flawlessy. Problem is setting it up for the first time. Documentation is not user friendly to the non-tech savvy. I'm using it as a wireless bridge / access point with my Sony blue-ray player. I already have a Linksys wireless router using WEP encryption (forced to use this because my XBOX 360 doesn't support WPA). To make it easy for others doing the same thing use the following steps:
1. Change your pc or laptop's ethernet adapter's IP address to 192.168.1.3 To do this on Vista or Windows 7 you open you network sharing center then you open your ethernet LAN adapter settings (or manage network connections in Vista). Select the Internet protocol v4 (IPv4) and go into properties. Manually put in the IP address with subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 and don't worry about the gateway address.
2. Connect your WAP3205 to your pc/laptop with the ethernet cable that is provided. Of course make sure you plugged in the power to it or your going nowhere. Open up your preferred browser (IE, firefox, netscape, etc.) and then type in the address bar 192.168.1.2 and now you will be connected to the WAP3205. Type in the default password of 1234, you are now prompted to change your password to whatever you want it to be.
3. Now that your in the WAP3205 click on Expert Mode. When in this mode on the far left you will see Status and below it Monitor, Configuration and Maintenance. Click on Maintenance and then hit the plus sign in front of Maintenance once you are in. Go to the last option of Sys OP Mode then select Client Mode and hit apply.
4. Go back to the far left and hit configuration then go to Wireless LAN. You will see tabs for Profile, Site Survey and WPS. Hit the Profile tab and then hit the Add button. Type in your network name / SSID and then select your security drop down box. Select WEP if you have a setup like me with the XBOX 360 or if you don't care about security select the no security option. Type in your passphrase that you use for your router's security or the actual 128 bit security code (or 64 bit if that is what you use) and hit apply. Then select your newly created profile and hit the activate button. If it's configured correctly you will get a green check. Now your done on this end.
5. Disconnect your WAP3205 from your pc/laptop and change your pc or laptop's ethernet adapter settings back to whatever it was before.
6. Go to your blue-ray player and disconnect the power cord for about a minute or more. Connect the WAP3205 to the blue-ray player with the ethernet connection and power your blue-ray player back on. The blue-ray player will automatically pick up the network settings from the WAP3205 and you will be done.
Hope this is helpful and if you don't have an XBOX 360 or if you use WPA for security the setup should be easier.
So far so good with the Zyxel WAP3205...I had used the Linksys WET610N (2 separate units) and they both failed. The first one worked a couple of days before the wireless stopped working and the second one's wireless failed right out of the box. The WET610N's are way easier to configure but they are too expensive and for me totally unrealiable. The WAP3205 is a steal and worth the effort when you consider the rock solid connection I have now, besides it was less than half the price of the Linksys. It's not as nice looking as the Linksys that's for sure but the main thing is it works as described.

Smart Strip LCG4 Energy Saving Power Strip with Autoswitching Technology and Fax/Modem Surge Protection Review

Smart Strip LCG4 Energy Saving Power Strip with Autoswitching Technology and Fax/Modem Surge Protection
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased a Smart Strip and use it to power my PC, monitor, printer, speakers and other peripheral devices. I find that it performs quite well. My PC is plugged into the control outlet, so the other outlets turn on when the PC is turned on. When the PC turns off, the other outlets shut down, so I no longer worry about shutting off my monitor, printer, or speakers. Sometimes there is a few minutes of delay before the peripherals power down, but this sensitivity can be tweaked with a setting on the Smart Strip - it is adjustable because some devices continue to draw a small current even when powered off, which can be enough current to keep the other outlets from shutting down. But with some adjustments, it can be set to work in most situations. The energy savings/environmental benefits make this a worthwhile purchase, but the convenience factor of not having to power on or off my devices just adds value. I plan to buy another one for my stereo system.

2Wire Power Supply 2900-800007-000 for 1800HG Modems Review

2Wire Power Supply 2900-800007-000 for 1800HG Modems
Average Reviews:

These power supplies, for the 2wire modem 1800, do die. If they begin failing to deliver steady, you can have the modem lose connection, then retry to get power, then re-gain power (steady green light on top), and seem back in business, but go 'out' again, just to re-cycle, when something requires the modem to do work - such as trying to get broadband connection., or someone else hopping in on wireless.
This power supply will work. As will others - if you don't know how to substitute one 6 volt power supply for another, you might need to ask Lance Armstrong and his friends over at Radio Shack. If you use something different, you MUST have the polarity correct, or you will likely burn and kill your modem.
If you don't know what that means, then you better ask someone who does. Because it is just as easy to find a substitute power supply with the polarity the opposite way you need as it is to find one with poliarity the way you need it. --The connectors look the same, but power supplies will vary in which has "positive" on inside of that little dealio (in other words, you cannot figure out if it is the right polarity just by figuring out if the connector fits).

I've had this modem for several months now and I'm going to stay with Cricket as I can't get DSL or cable. I am barely under coverage where I'm at but I still get good speeds, you'll want to check coverage at mycricket.com before you buy one. They have got three different monthly plans, $40 for 2.5 GB, $50 for 5 GB and $60 for 7.5 GB. Their fair use policy slows down the speed if you use more than your allowed amount but I've been able to get maybe twice the GB's, only at a slower speed, but watch it! If you use too much over your plan they'll keep slowing you down till you have practically no speed and then when the next month comes round it might take up to ten days for the speed to pick up again. Customer support does not help, if you have any problems you have to do your own research.

U.S. Robotics 005686-03 56K V.90 External Fax Modem Review

U.S. Robotics 005686-03 56K V.90 External Fax Modem
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was having trouble with disconnects from my ISP (almost every 10 minutes) and they told me that my modem, a Rockwell HCF 56K, was notorious for disconnects with them. A reliable modem is important to me because I run a business here on the web, and when I need to do something I don't want to be disconnected. After shopping around I decided on getting a 3Com US Robotics External 56K Faxmodem. Installation of the modem was extreamly easy...just hook it up, restart the computer, and plug in play does the rest. I had to change my connection properties to use this modem though, but that was also simple. After dialing up I was amazed at the speed. With my old modem, it usually downloaded files at 2 to 3.5 Kilobytes a second (I know that is very bad, but that's how it was), and now my new modem downloads at 4 to 7 kilobytes a second! An amazing improvement! And I haven't been disconnected once.
When you buy the modem you will also have to buy a cable, since it doesn't come with one. My cable is a Belkin DB9 Female/DB25 Male Modem Cable. This modem is a great choice, probably the best.

I plugged it into my PC's USB port, a setup wizard instantly popped up, and quickly installed the software needed to connect. Once the program loaded completely, I tried to hit connect and was greeted with a connection failed message. So, I sent into settings and changed the following for my AT&T data plan:
APN: WAP.CINGULAR
UN: WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM
PW: CINGULAR1
Once those were applied, I was able to connect with speeds up to 1.8Mbps (according to dslreports.com/mspeed). Make sure you have your laptop/desktop near a window and not pushed up against a wall or your card may not connect right away.

This will work with the Zoom 4501 3G router, you just have to input the settings mentioned above in order for it to connect.
