Upon closer inspection I noticed how extremely light the box was, and I couldn't see any large inductors through the holes in the back of the phone jacks like I've always seen on other dsl filters. So, I decided to open it and take a look inside - the "filtering circuit" consisted of one capacitor and one tiny little inductor (typically filters have several of each, and the inductors are much larger). Even if the unit I received hadn't had a broken solder joint, and the connection to the modem worked, I can't imagine this would do much (if anything) to filter out the line noise. Terrible product.
