I bought the D-Link DVG-1402 S/L to try cheap overseas calls to Western Europe; that's where our families are. My first router didn't work so well - poor voice quality, it got really hot to the touch, and after a day or so I couldn't even connect to the internet through it. A week and a RMA later, the new router is working very well. I also learned that the poor voice quality was partly due to the cheap V-Tech 2.4 GHz cordless I was using with it. When I used a corded phone, everyone was impressed that the service sounded fine. Liking the cordless idea, though, I switched to a Panasonic 900 MHz DSS phone and that works great.
When not using the VoIP feature the speed is fine, 4Mb down, 400Kb up, on average. With VoIP in use, however, (making a live call) the down speed is about 2Mb but the uplink drops off to around 24Kb! You can get better internet speed by putting the DVG-1402 behind another router (in my case a Netgear RP-614) and just use the D-Link box for the VoIP feature - but that wasn't the point of buying it!
I like Lingo as a VoIP service. It works fine for me. But don't buy the DVG-1402 as a replacement router just because it has the VoIP feature. Just get the regular Lingo inerface and put it behind the good router you already have.
