(More customer reviews)I bought it to try and rescue data and pictures from an old broken nokia phone. It did not work as described by the manufacturer. The instructions clearly state that a "free" software download is needed from the nokia website. This is where I explain (outdated). Almost all new laptops have some sort of wireless technology such as WiFi or bluetooth, So do nokia phones, this is how you can connect to the computer a free downloadable software. If for whatever reason you need a cable then by all means this is the product for you.

(More customer reviews)My experience with this router has been one major mistake after another. I didn't check the Amazon reviews before purchasing - my mistake. I bought it (not through Amazon) - my mistake. I threw away the packaging after setting it up and now I can't return - major mistake.
Although this thing was simple enough to set-up, it has been a major letdown for all of the reasons that other reviewers have mentioned. I've had it for 2 weeks now, and I count it a good day if I only have to reset the damn thing once. My devices all run more slowly than on my old router, and the stupid thing freezes up constantly. I've also run into multiple IP address conflict messages and have to reset it to prevent those messages as well.
I'm so frustrated that I'll likely trash the pile of junk and go buy another brand. Shame on me for buying this thing - and shame on me for not keeping the packaging until I knew how it worked (or didn't in this case).

(More customer reviews)This device allows you to COMBINE 2 ethernet ports from a switch/hub/router into 1 cable and to SPLIT the cable back out to 2 ports for use with computers or other ethernet devices.
A typical ethernet CAT5 cable has 8 wires in it; and for 10/100 ethernet networks you only use 4 of those 8 wires. Therefore you can use the other unused 4 wires to run another ethernet segment.
In order to use this product properly you have to connect 2 ports from your switch/hub/router. Then a regular CAT5 ethernet cable to wherever you need to go and put ANOTHER one of these on the end to split the signal back out.
Typical use:
PROBLEM: You have 1 ethernet cable connecting to a computer (for example) and you need to add another computer or other device. You do not want to run another ethernet cable.
SOLUTION: Install one of these on both sides of the ethernet cable. 1) At the source of your ethernet network (where your router/switch/hub is); remove the existing ethernet cable; then take two empty ports and plug them into the 2 ports side of this device. Then plug the ethernet cable that you just unplugged into the single port side of this device. 2) At the end where the computer is, remove the ethernet cable from the computer; and plug it into the single port side of this device. Then connect your computer and the additional device to the two port side of this device.
(It does not matter which port of this device you plug your computer/additional device into).
In closing ... You MUST combine 2 ethernet ports from your switch to make this work. I see reviews all the time from people who do not know how this works and they give bad reviews because it won't work for them.

Westell 6100 DSL Router Modem (C90) Review

(More customer reviews)I know several people have had problems with this modem, but I never have. One reviewer even said they fail after a year, but I have had mine for over 4 years now without any problems. The only problems I have had were my own fault by changing some of the settings and then having to re-setup the modem via Verizon's software. As for Verizon's support; it is not great, but not so bad either. They treat everyone like a moron, but I guess that is to be expect as 80% of people are not computer literate and they did fix my problem the one time I called them. Also, one should check if their ISP actually supports the modem before buying a third party DSL modem. I would never buy a used DSL modem though as you never know why that person is selling it. Calling your ISP and having them help reset the modem is the best bet for those having problems.

Since ethernet networking only uses four pins of the available eight in Cat5, this adapter will use the extra four pins for a second network connection. This means you must have TWO of these adapters, one connected at each end of a CAT5 patch, in order to use them correctly.The previous reviewers were obviously victims of the poor and incomplete description given here. The manufacturer's web page (http://www.startech.com/Product/ItemApplications.aspx?productid=RJ45SPLITTER&c=US) gives a more complete description, but some networking knowledge is recommended to properly utilize this.

(More customer reviews)I'm thinking the people rating this poorly don't understand how to use it. It WON'T split a single Ethernet CONNECTION into two. It WILL enable a single Ethernet CABLE (which has 8 wires) to carry two connections (which require 4 wires each). This is helpful in places where you have a single cable running from your router (typically in a wiring closet) to two devices, and can't easily run a second cable -- i.e., where one cable is already installed in the walls.
Here's how you use it: Run Ethernet cables from 2 ports of your router into the female jacks of the first splitter. Plug the male end of that splitter into the jack in your wiring closet that runs to the part of your house you want. Plug the male end of the second splitter into the Ethernet jack at the other end of that cable run (i.e., in the room where the devices are located). Run Ethernet cables from the female jacks of the second splitter to the devices.
If you want to use a single Ethernet connection for two devices, these splitters won't work; you need a router that shares the connection among the devices.
