These power supplies, for the 2wire modem 1800, do die. If they begin failing to deliver steady, you can have the modem lose connection, then retry to get power, then re-gain power (steady green light on top), and seem back in business, but go 'out' again, just to re-cycle, when something requires the modem to do work - such as trying to get broadband connection., or someone else hopping in on wireless.
This power supply will work. As will others - if you don't know how to substitute one 6 volt power supply for another, you might need to ask Lance Armstrong and his friends over at Radio Shack. If you use something different, you MUST have the polarity correct, or you will likely burn and kill your modem.
If you don't know what that means, then you better ask someone who does. Because it is just as easy to find a substitute power supply with the polarity the opposite way you need as it is to find one with poliarity the way you need it. --The connectors look the same, but power supplies will vary in which has "positive" on inside of that little dealio (in other words, you cannot figure out if it is the right polarity just by figuring out if the connector fits).
