Sharp UX-D1200 Broadband Fax Review

Sharp UX-D1200 Broadband Fax
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
From day one this machine would jamb during every other fax transmission. We experienced nothing but frustration with it until it finally ceased to even receive faxes. Evidently something happened internally and it began stripping the fax tone from the incoming fax call. Consequently, the phone would ring and ring without ever connecting to receive the fax. We sent it back as defective and purchased a Brother machine instead. I do not recommend this device.

Canon FAXPHONE L120 Laser Fax / Printer Review

Canon FAXPHONE L120 Laser Fax / Printer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've had my share of problems with the machine. The other reviewer was right about the ringer... it's loud to the point where the sharpness of the ring tone hurt my ears. I spent nearly an hour with Canon's tech support and while they gave the impression that they knew what they were talking about nothing they said seemed to work. I finally got passed the issue by just placing some tape over the speakers holes to muffle the sound.
Two other big issues to be aware of. I was not able to get the fax to work work on one of my VOIP lines. ( I believe it was Verizon's Fios. ) If I recall correctly, tech support said that the machine wasn't digital and as such did not support these newer, pure digital, optical transmission protocols. Terrific, obsolete right out of the gate. The L120 also does not have any Mac drivers or Mac support although it will work inside of Parallels.
On the positive side the L120 scans documents for fax transmission fast which is nice, although it only transmits at 33k baud rate. It also prints 12 pages per minute though it seems faster. It also has a phone on the side which is convenient (although it would have been more convenient if Canon had decided to included both of the half inch clasps that side phone needs to stay properly mounted).

I had high hopes for the L120 but in the end was very disappointed with it. Canon could have done better.

Hewlett Packard 1020 Plain Paper Fax Machine Review

Hewlett Packard 1020 Plain Paper Fax Machine
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Pretty much every major annoyance you've encountered in a fax machine is present in this thing. First, I receive faxes on a daily basis and the 25 or so blank pages I can insert are not enough. If I try and put more than 25 pages in it will jam or feed two or more pages at one time. Second, you can see the wire attachment catches the faxes we send. What about the faxes we receive? It spits them out on the bottom to land all over the desk or floor. Hey HP - this isn't rocket science here. Don't you think buyers would've liked some kind of tray to catch the incoming faxes? Third, (and most annoying) it simply doesn't work properly. Even though it's supposed to detect the difference, about one in four incoming faxes are picked up by the internal answering machine instead of the fax. Fourth, the answering machine will come on if someone calls and you don't pick up in four rings. Other machines can detect if you pick up another line and usually stop the message. This one can't.
Is there anything good about it? Well, if the fax connection is successful it does print ok faxes at about one page per 30 seconds to one minute. It's quiet for a fax since it's basically an inkjet printer. Scans of basic black text copy ok, but it's evident the page was scanned, photocopies still look better. Definitely don't use it to copy pages that need to have a professional look.
I've returned this once already, the replacement is just as bad. This model has just too many problems for me to be able to recommend it to anyone.
Hope the review helped.

Command Communications HC2000 HotCall 2000 Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
If you are one of the 16 million Internet users that have a single phone line and subscribe to the phone company provided Call Waiting service, then this is the product for you.
Now while online you will never miss another incoming phone call or fax (if you are using a single data line as in a home office).
While online, if an incoming call is detected, HotCall will notify you with a alert tone and a flashing LED. If you have a phone attached, you can pick the call up and tell the incoming caller you are on the internet and will call back. Depending on modem connect speed, you can have up to 10 seconds of talk time.
You can also ingnore the incoming call - or - take call and HotCall will terminate the online connection.
Instead of callers getting a terminal busy signal, now you can stay in touch.
Very simple operation, easy to install ( 2 minutes). Great manual, and excellent tollfree tech support.
If you are an Internet shopper, now you can shop online with the worry of missing that important call.
GREAT PRODUCT. A must for every Internet user today! HotCall gives you peace of mind while on the Internet.
Great gift idea!

Consider the problem: You're expecting an important phone call but you need to work over the Internet. Your computer and phone share the same phone line. Unfortunately, if someone tries to call you while you're using your computer, you'll miss the call.
Consider the solution: HotCall 2000 and call waiting service from your local phone company (contact your phone company to verify availability of call waiting). When your computer modem is connected to the phone line, HotCall alerts you to an incoming call. If you want to receive the call, simply pick up the phone receiver. HotCall interrupts the modem connection and instantly connects you to the caller. Plus, if your call is only a few seconds long, it may be possible to maintain your modem connection.
Simply place HotCall near your computer, then connect your computer modem, a phone, and a single-phone line to HotCall. When HotCall detects the call waiting signal, it automatically alerts you to the incoming call. Your options are to ignore the call, to answer the call by picking up the handset of the phone connected to HotCall, or to tell the caller you will call back, then hang up within 10 seconds to maintain your modem connection.
HotCall is designed and manufactured by the inventor of the original fax switch, Command Communications.

I recently purchased the panasonic kx-fpg-175 and Iam
impressed with all of its numerouse features! I bought this
Fax to replace my older panasonic fax unit. Since I have also
been in the office machine repair business.I can highly recommend this unit. I expressly bought over the laser printer style for its extreme long term reliability as well as the 2.4 ghz handheld and caller I.D. functions. My old panasonic was thermal paper unit so this new unit will give me plain paper capability with thermal type reliability. The unit was easy to setup and make's great plain paper copies and fast fax transmissions!

Combining a cordless telephone with a full-featured fax machine, the KX-FPG175 offers a 14.4 Kbps modem that can zip out nine pages per minute. The cordless handset functions at 2.4 GHz, with a two-line LCD caller ID display on the base, and a three-line LCD display on the handset itself. The machine includes a digital answering machine that can record 18 minutes of messages, divided into two personal mailboxes for different users or family members.
The KX-FPG175 has a 150-sheet paper tray, accommodating both letter- and legal-size paper, and a 28-page memory for those extra-long transmissions. We were a little surprised that Panasonic only includes a six-month warranty with the machine (one year would be expected), but it does include parts and labor.

HP 1040 Monochrome Inkjet Fax Machine Review

HP 1040 Monochrome Inkjet Fax Machine
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was concerned that this model might be as bad as the 1240 model, but after about a week of use, the 1040 model is working good. No paper feeding problems when sending faxes.
The fax machine is sharing the same line as my regular phone with no problems, but you must physically locate your answering machine next to the fax so that you can plug it into your fax machine for this to work. Messages go to the answering machine, and faxes go to the fax machine just as they should.

Brother FAX-1860c Color Inkjet Fax, Copier, Phone Review

Brother FAX-1860c Color Inkjet Fax, Copier, Phone
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased this product to use strictly to send and receive black and white faxes for a 5 person office. It worked great until the color cartridges dried up. After 6 months I had to purchase a set of color ink cartridges just to print out the black and white faxes. A call to Brother's customer service revealed that there is no way around this problem. To spend $45 every 6 months on wasted consumables makes no sense to me! The machine has been fast and trouble free and does produce clear faxes and copies. We have not used the phone feature.

Brother High-Speed Laser IntelliFax 2920 Review

Brother High-Speed Laser IntelliFax 2920
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We bought this fax machine on the basis of the reviews above. We are certainly not very happy with it, compared to our HP old inkjet fax which finally bit the dust.
It seems not all that fast, as it reads everything, puts it into the memory and then faxes it.
The display is not large and is generally not very helpful,eg when a fax hasn't gone through and is waiting to redial, it states that the machine is sleeping, so you cannot tell by looking at the machine that the fax has not gone through yet. I am not a mindreader so cannot tell that the machine is waiting for 5 minutes to redial.
Design - the buttons for the automatic dialing are very small. The output tray gets in the way of my sleeve when I use the buttons.
The print-outs are horrible. The quality is like something out of the dark ages, it is so dotty. It shows the number of the fax as the left hand column, something we don't need to know.
We want to print out the fax log for the previous day, but cannot seem to get less than the last 50 faxes, so we throw away several pages. Our last fax machine got 30 faxes on 1 page.
We were going to change it for another machine but we couldn't find a machine without flaws.
It does take a lot of pages through without jamming, a real positive.

Brother FAX-575 Personal Fax, Phone, and Copier Review

Brother FAX-575 Personal Fax, Phone, and Copier
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Bought this to have a fax machine at home. It was easy to set up. Doesn't take up much space on the desk and you have a built in phone with caller ID, too. The copy machine part of fax makes nice clean copies, too. This wouldn't be very cost effective if you are going to receive a lot of faxes or make a lot of copies. It is great for someone like me who has to fax stuff for work occasionally and doesn't want to drive to the library and pay $2.00 a page.

Panasonic KX-FL511 High Speed, up to 12 ppm, Laser Fax/Copier Machine Review

Panasonic KX-FL511 High Speed, up to 12 ppm, Laser Fax/Copier Machine
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
(This is mostly my review of the KX-FL501, with relevant changes)
It performs quite well, when it's working. The quick-scan feature is total gold, I can toss several pages through then walk away and do something else with them while it faxes.
But the toner. Oh, god, the toner.
I'm used to laser printers whining at me on the message display about low or "out" toner, and I'm just as used to ignoring them. The helpful people at Panasonic have decided that they don't like people ignoring those messages, so they include a pleasant beep. And when I say "pleasant", I mean it gives me nightmares. When the time comes for the machine to be replaced (and it will come, oh yes, it will come), I may run an extension cord outside so it can actually be actively beeping as I go Office Space on it.
Anyway, toner. To guard against the possibility of someone with super-human will tuning out the beeping (or perhaps to guard against the deaf), they also have included a helpful print out. On this print out are several large bars of varying shades, designed, presumably, to illustrate visually to you exactly how low your toner is.
I have never seen this page print in anything but a perfect, pristine manner. The bars are wonderful in their consistency, with nary a hint of lightness. While this would be an excellent demo of print quality, as a notification that the toner is low, I must admit to some confusion. It's *perfect*. It *never prints light*. So as far as I can tell, the only function it actually serves is to *use more toner*. Quite a bit of toner, considering the large black and near-black bars.
In amusing phone conversations with Panasonic, I've determined that either A) there is no way to disable this helpful function or B) there is, but they require a more substantial bribe than I've offered to offset their loss in toner revenue.
It gets better.
After it's printed two or three of these frame-worthy gems over the course of a week, it decides to play hard ball. Now it claims that the toner is gone. Out. No toner remains. This is communicated in two ways. One, the beep. Only this time it's incessant. The beep just goes on and on until you replace the toner, unplug the machine, or throw it out the window (and perhaps even then). It also...*prints out a notice*. That's right, you read that correctly; to inform you that there is no toner, it *uses toner*. I'm sure you've guessed the best part already - this notice, like the joyous banners of grayscale earlier, also prints perfectly. It's never been even a little light.
Now we engage in a little off-Broadway production for the benefit of the fax machine. "Ahh, pity," we say, opening the machine and removing the toner unit. "We're out of toner. Guess I'll have to get more toner. I'll just open this package over here," we continue, as one of us makes crinkling noises in the background, and the other grimly shakes the toner unit from side to side. "Ah, good, I'll just pop that in, then," we say, winking, as we remove the toner drum, whisper an incantation over it, and pop it back in. "Whew, good as new. I'm sure glad we don't have to worry about any light printing thanks to the Panasonic engineers," we shout with glee, as we put the toner unit back in and close it up.
If we've said the incantations correctly, the fax machine accepts our tribute and pretends everything is ok for a couple days, when the process is then repeated. Usually we perform the ritual twice successfully before it tires of our blandishments and insists the toner is out, despite the repeated evidence of our eyes. At this point we surrender to its whims and put a new drum unit in.
The drums aren't *too* bad, price-wise. I just have a minor philosophical objection to tossing them out when there's still clearly good toner left in them. But aside from that, it's a worthwhile machine.

Brother IntelliFax 4750e High-Performance Business-Class Laser Fax Review

Brother IntelliFax 4750e High-Performance Business-Class Laser Fax
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I debated and researched for weeks on different fax machines and brands. I had an older brother fax machine (5-6 years). It worked great but I had broken one of the trays and didn't hold a lot of paper. I debated some of the Multi-function copier-printer-faxes. For only a few dollars more I could get one that duplexes and every other option imaginable. I have a copier. I have printers. I needed a fax. I receive 100-150 faxes a day. This is simply a great fax machine. Nothing more and absolutely nothing else. It is quiet and extremely fast. "Pick one thing and do it great" - this is what this machine does. It isn't OK at a lot. It's great at one thing. It sends and receives faxes.

If you don't want to pay for a separate phone line dedicated to your fax machine, this is an excellent solution. It separates out fax calls from voice calls and routes each type to the appropriate device. All you have to do is plug it into your phone line and them plug the fax machine and telephone into their separate ports in the Comswitch. This item is also nicely priced at $... and is probably tax-deductible if you're using it for business. A cimple and elegant solution.
