(More customer reviews)I bought this product because I needed a phone in my family room, which is really an enclosed patio without electrical wiring in the walls. I actually first bought the Radio Shack branded product, which I returned becuase it picked up too much static and stopped working after a couple of hours. After getting the GE product, I looked at the back panel and found out that it, the Radio Shack and the RCA product are all identical except for branding.
Both the Radio Shack and GE products worked perfectly when first hooked up. The Radio Shack product did not come with a manual, so after I returned it and got the GE product I read the manual and learned that they cannot be used with an extension cord. I hooked up the GE product directly to an outlet with high hopes one night.
The next morning, the static made the extension line useless. By the afternoon, I could not get a dial tone off either the base unit or the extension. Worse than that, every other phone in my house, not even attached to the product, lost their dial tone! Unplugging and resetting the units only solved the problems for all phones for a day or less. I experimented, and found that the problem was that I ran my phone line in and out of my computer. Luckily, I have a cable modem and only used my dial up as an emergency backup, so I was able to disconnect the phone line from the computer.
Although the product now works fine, I cannot give it the full 5 stars because (1) the product is fussy and the manual does not provide all fixes, and (2) I doubt the product will work when I switch to DSL and need to connect my phone line to the DSL modem. For that reason, I will actually return the product this week. I would hate to spend [the money]now, only to trash the system when I switch to DSL.

(More customer reviews)I've been using a set of these for over a year, and they are a godsend but not perfect. The good news; I use it to connect my Tivo (Tivo needs to dial in every night to update its program data) and it was the perfect solution for a tough spot, since there's no phone jack anywhere near my television. I have also used it to surf the web with a dial-up connection, with no real problems. Its fine, even through an extension cord! The bad news; I've tried to use for a phone, and that rally didn't cut it. It worked, but its a bad connection. I couldn't tolerate it. So I dispute the earlier comment that it can't be used for data. For me, its only use is for data, not voice! For certain situations, its ideal.

RCA RC926 Wireless Phone Jack Review

(More customer reviews)I use the RC926 to add an extra phone jack for my DirecTivos and standalone DirecTV receiver. All three receivers are split off from the extension jack and I have never had a problem with the units making the required service data call.
Edit: I also have DSL but use 2Wire filters (not the generic filters provided by Verizon) for greater clarity. A filter has to be placed between the jack and the wireless BASE unit for the wireless extension unit to function properly with DSL.
Note: Tivos and DirecTivos DO HAVE MODEMS so Rios' title header is somewhat misleading. But the facts in the body of the review are correct. Per Page 10 of RCA's manual (which is available on their website): "Note: The maximum baud rate for the Wireless Phone Jack is 14,400. Best results, however, will be experienced at 9,600." This limitation is why I knocked off a star.
So yes, I would not recommend that you attempt to surf the Internet using this jack or use it for any purpose where a high baud rate is important. But the phone jack is perfectly fine for voice, fax, and satellite receiver use.

To realize it's fullest potential, the closer, the better (for the Base unit and Remote Unit), further away invites crackling and interference on the line.
Best is "Line of Sight" and less than 50 feet for me, walls with metal inside them cut the RF signal down a bit.
Very happy with it, runs an answering machine at home where no wall phone jack is located and it works fine for me!

I have one base unit with a wired telephone plugged in and two extensions connected to a Satellite DVR and a Fax Machine. The quality of the signal is excellent, and set up is quick and easy. Finally, this is one of the few powerline phone jacks that will transmit caller ID information. Make sure that all plugs one uses these units are wired into the same breaker box or they will not work.

Wireless Portable Phone Jack Review

(More customer reviews)Seems like a great idea to avoid unsightly (and potentially -if you have an elderly dependent- dangerous) long wires. So I gave it a try.
The unit is very well and solidly built (if a bit bulky), and a snap to set up. Plug the base unit into an electrical plug close to your main phone line, and run a phone cable from the phone line to the base unit. Do the same with the sattelite unit, and connect the phone to the satellite unit - you are done. You will get dial tone.
What will depend a lot on your wiring, I assume, is sound quality. It was horrid in my environment - heavy static, a very loud and variable background noise and muffled voice to top it off. It was unusable in that environment. I don't blame the product - I am sure it depends a lot on how the wires run in a place. Seems worth a try, even though it didn't work for me.
