(More customer reviews)Years ago you could buy cheap, stand-alone surge protectors for your modem. Those days are long gone and now they try to get you to buy expense equipment that *includes* the surge suppressor. I've blown out a lot of suppressors over the years and that is all I want, in the cheapest package possible.
While I don't need the AC filter features that this unit offers, this *is* the cheapest thing that fulfills my needs. Buy several at one time to reduce the shipping costs per unit and these units are a steal.

To realize it's fullest potential, the closer, the better (for the Base unit and Remote Unit), further away invites crackling and interference on the line.
Best is "Line of Sight" and less than 50 feet for me, walls with metal inside them cut the RF signal down a bit.
Very happy with it, runs an answering machine at home where no wall phone jack is located and it works fine for me!

I have one base unit with a wired telephone plugged in and two extensions connected to a Satellite DVR and a Fax Machine. The quality of the signal is excellent, and set up is quick and easy. Finally, this is one of the few powerline phone jacks that will transmit caller ID information. Make sure that all plugs one uses these units are wired into the same breaker box or they will not work.

Ge 26191 Duplex Wall Jack Adapter (White, 4-Conductor) Review

(More customer reviews)First, the technical: This is a Y or T device. It connects 4 pins (red, green, black, yellow) to two sets of 4 pins (the standard 4 center pins of a 6-pin RJ11 jack). Thus, you can use this for two-lines. It is NOT a splitter. There are other products which will split the 4 wires of the plug into two separate, 2-line sockets, typically marked L1 and L2. This is NOT one of those. Both devices plugged into it will get the SAME 4 wires (2-lines).
Next, the construction: It is a quite cheap, made-in-China product. It feels cheap and has some bits of corrosion on the (brass plated-looking) contacts. Not impressive. It compares to others at local electronics stores that sell for 99 cents. The ones at local stores were, for me, beige. I have white outlets, white jacks, white phones, etc., and I didn't want a goofy beige adapter. So, I bought a few of thes GE ones from Amazon which are WHITE.
Finally, the rating. Considering the cheap construction and price premium for a different color, I cannot give it 5 stars.
