(More customer reviews)I purchased this unit attempting to use it with Cablevision's Optimum Voice service. Unfortunately this will not work with it. Cablevision was
very uncooperative, would not tell me what protocols their VoIP service
uses on their network, and wouldn't even give me our own telephone number
which was already assigned pending installation, and I'm the customer! I
have contacted the seller in an atempt to resolve this matter.
The unit pictured is the 8 port version shown on the Grandstream website.
My photos show the ACTUAL VoIP unit shipped. It is configurable using the
web browser interface, AND using a touch-tone phone connected to port FXS1
on the rear. I didn't try the RS-232C DB9 port. The Grandstream website is
very good. I downloaded and printed the supporting documents I needed for
installation- Quick Installation Guide, User Manual and Technical Specifi-
cations. There is also Windows and Linux versions of a Configuration Tool
containing an API for provisioning applications.
Cablevision would not provision this gateway using my Linksys BEFCMU10
cable modem. According to them, they use 24.x.x.x public IP addresses and
10.x.x.x private addresses for the VoIP service, which they claim cannot
be supported in any manner except with a VoIP equipped cable modem, and
cannot be accessed using this gateway or other similiar devices from the
WAN side of the modem. My feeling is like other providers they try locking
you into their equipment and services. Anything outside of the norm they
will not support, nor attempt technical support so DIY's can connect using
their own equipment. I wish I could tell you more. Tried numerous config-
urations and couldn't make this unit work with Cablevision Optimum Voice.
Failing any solution from the seller, I will have to return this unit and
no fault of the product, it seems to work just fine.
