We mostly use them in remote monitoring sites, and we tend to lose them to lightning damage. Surge protection helps, but we are talking about lightning. Anyway, this modem is well worth trying. This was my first experience with Amazon.com, and it was flawless. It couldn't have been easier. I ordered 15 modems, and they were in my office within two days. Excellent experience....

Us Robotic Modem Usr263093-Oem Pci 56K W Rohs Soft Modem Review

(More customer reviews)I ordered this a couple weeks ago based in part on the one 5 star review. What I failed to notice is the letters "OEM" in the product name. Installing this modem is a breeze if you've ever installed anything in a desktop PC. Open your box... pick the right empty slot plug it in, close your box and plug in your phone line.
Immediately I was able to get the modem to dial a number. But I couldn't hear the dial tone or have any conversation thru my USB Logitec PC headset.
I contactd US Robotics thru their website. They replied - "this is an OEM product. Conact the people you purchased it from."
Ha. Now what?
I found and installed a telephony software program called Active Call Center. But apparently it does not work with this particular modem.
That's where I stand at this point... with no obvious place to turn to for help.
I don't understand why US Robotics would allow Amazon to sell one of their OEM products. At least they might display a prominent warning that you won't get support from the manufacturer.

US Robotics V.90-V.92 Internal PCI Faxmodem Review

(More customer reviews)I am talking about the US Robotics V.92 PCI Fax Modem USR5699B used on an IBM desktop computer with Windows XP. First the BAD NEWS and then, believe it or not, the GOOD NEWS. By sheer chance and good luck I stumbled upon a "solution".
I think the name "U.S." combined with the word "Robotics" fooled me into thinking that I might be getting a good product. Thus began a nightmare that often kept me up late at night for an entire week. Immediately after installing the "US Robotics ControlCenter" from the installation CD I tried installing the "US Robotics Internet Call Notification" feature and was rewarded with the following cryptic response:
"No U.S. Robotics V92 Modem was detected. Please install your modem before running Setup again". So I repeated the installation and back came the same error message. I was totally flaberbasted. Feeling totally helpless I called their tech support at 888-428-9450. After being guided through a seemingly endless labyrinth of Windows "Device Manager" dialogs I was able to install the "Call Notification" feature. My troubles are over, I thought. On my first attempt to connect I got speeds as low as 28.8 kbps and if I was lucky as high
as 46.6 kpbs. The generic modem that I was trying to replace consistently returned speeds as high as 52 kbps. Of course the actual connect speed may be a little lower but I had never seen anything this bad on a modem. I uninstalled and re-installed this modem between 4-6 times every day. A total of between 28-42 times since I got the modem. Things actually got even worse. When I tried to dial-up it reported "No Dial Tone" even after I could clearly hear the dial tone on my phone. I could not send faxes. I was on my last nerve and tried another uninstall,
but this time differently.
Instead of using Start .. Settings .. Control Panel .. Add/Remove Programs .. I UNINSTALLED the modem using Device Manager. I then RESTARTED the computer and allowed Windows XPs PlugNPlay detect the modem. I resisted the urge to use the installation CD. I used Start .. Settings .. Control Panel .. Network and Internet Connections to create a new Dial-Up icon .. it connected on my first try at 48.0 kbps and I was able to send faxes. It will occasionally failed to connect on dial-up but succeeded after I rebooted the computer. Whew, what a nightmare ! I am now using this horrible little piece of U.S. Robotics technology to search for a new modem online. I will order my new modem, try it out and then return this U.S. Robotics V.92 modem to WALMART. No more U.S.eless Robotics for me. Enough is enough.

for modern modems, now in use worldwide.
It is a sort like the Rolls-Royce of the Modems.
Lightning-protected, its reliability is unparalleled.
Works in unfavorable S/N (Signal/Noise) ratio, i.e., in
old, corroded or damaged copper phone lines, where other Modems
"throw the towel". Its fax capability is excellent.
Cons:
Installation under Windows XP and other Windows O.S. is a
little "tricky" because you have to install the software
and THEN install the hardware. If the driver becomes corrupt,
you have to remove the Modem from the PC chassis... and so on...

(More customer reviews)This is an excellent modem. I tried 3 different modems to get my PC answering system working. Modem 1 14.99, did not work at all. Modem 2 35.00 only fax/data worked-no voice. Modem 3 this modem worked perfectly. It was detected by Windows XP. It comes with all drivers to install Com ports and drivers. Don't waste your time trying cheaper modems. Go with this one first. You will not be dissapointed.
This modem does not come with software. But it works perfectly with all programs I tried-The phonebot, ezvoice3.3, Advanced Call Center 7.0 and several others. Good documentation and excellent support via the internet if you need it. Note: This is the first time I ever reviewed any purchase. It worked so well I felt they deserved the good props.

I never had one problem with it. It is using Agere modems onboard, and handshake very well with all types of fax machines. Multi-tech gets A+ for this one heck of a quality product!
Uses: Fax Blasting, or Fax Server and maybe other uses. But thats what I used it for.

(More customer reviews)I bought the Zoom 3049 external serial faxmodem to connect to a Digi 4 port serial-to-USB adapter on our faxserver. I currently have 4 older Boca modems connected to it, but one of the modems is starting to get a little flaky. The Zoom 3049 seemed to have good reviews as a faxmodem, so I thought I'd buy one to test it out. The only problem that I have with the Zoom 3049 is the way the driver is installed. It will not recognize the serial ports on the USB adapter, and a manual installation is looking for an "inf" file (which the Zoom 3049 doesn't have). Older drivers have an "inf" file, but this one simply has an "exe" executable that contains "dll"s. The only thing that I could do was install it on the on-board serial port. Other than that, it's been pretty reliable.

This modem does the same job and the price has really come down. Installed with no problems or device drivers needed right out of the box in my Windows 7 64BIT computer.
I don't think you can beat this modem, especially considering the price and ease of installation.

TRENDnet 56K Internal PCI Data/Fax/TAM Modem TFM-PCIV92A Review

(More customer reviews)This modem works fine so far. I didn't have trouble getting the MOH to install, I just couldn't find it. Right-clicking the application icon in the system tray of the desktop displays this option. I am not very computer literate, so I didn't think to look there. You must run the software installation FIRST before hardware installation according to the instruction book. Even so , my computer could not find the both drivers. I ended up going thru "my computer" and clicking on the "drivers" and then they installed.( There is an audio driver also). So far everything is running good.
I also had to change a setting on ISP dial up box so that it would choose the correct modem. I just wanted to add these
things in case there is someone like myself out there who
purchases this. Hope this helps.
