We just wanted connectivity between the LG shine and our PC via USB. Should've been simple. However, our wireless company wanted $30.00 for a USB cable. I knew there was a better way.
The cable worked right out of the box. The trick here is you need to change your USB connection settings on your phone if you want to transfer mp3 or picture files. On the LG Shine, we changed it to "Mass Storage" and then our PC treated the phone just like an external drive.

(More customer reviews)Cable is dirt cheap from SFPlanet, works just fine with my LG VX8350.
The packaging says it is for chocolate, but never mind, it works with 8350 just fine.
Some gotchas for the verizon subscribers:
o I installed it on vista and windows found the driver from windows update.
o However, the SD memory wont show up as a removeable disk in explorer.
o You need to get the VCAST music manager. Music manager can be downloaded from verizonwireless.com for free (dont worry if it says $19.99, that is only if you buy headphones, cable, etc.)

o VCAST music manager also installs the right driver for vista.
o You can then sync music using the music manager. Nothing else (verizon sucks!)
The attached CD from LG contains many cool stuff like ringtones, pictures, contacts sync, etc. But they wont work with verizon phone. They only work with the GSM model. Verizon sucks again!

It works fine with my SGH-t739(Katalyst) phone and I believe will work with other Samsung phones, but you better check it on Samsung support web site.
Here is the info they sent me:
The SGH-T739 (Katalyst) handset has the capability to transfer files directly from a PC to the handset or a memory card, residing in the handset, using a compatible USB cable. There is a configurable USB setting required for transferring files, via an USB cable, using either Mass Storage (Windows Explorer) or Modem (PC Studio 3).
To access the USB setting follow the steps below:
1. From the standby screen, press the left soft key for Menu
2. Select Settings (9)
3. Select Phone Settings (3)
4. Select USB Settings (4)
5. Highlight one of the following USB Setting options:
* Modem, to use the handset as a wireless modem or/or for the use PC Studio 3 to transfer files directly to the handset
* Mass Storage, to use Windows Explorer to transfer files to or from a memory card
6. Press the left soft key to Select the desired USB Setting
Tip: The handset is unable to connect using PC Studio 3 when the Mass Storage option is enabled.
Note: A formatted microSD(tm) memory card must be inserted into the handset for the Mass Storage option to function properly.

(More customer reviews)Just as stated, this cable was a perfect fit for both of my LG VX8500 phones. The correct drivers were included with the item and it installed without a hitch on Windows XP Professional.
Although the software that is included didn't seem to work with my phones (as was stated in the description), BitPim (www.bitpim.org) saw the phones and allowed me to move pictures and ringtones to and from the phones with no problems.

The CD that is shipped with it is trash and does not work, my computer made such a howl when I tried to install the software on it that I will not ever put that thing in my HP CQ60 Presario laptop again. I run Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit. I was able to download the Samsung PC Studio 3 utility from the Samsung Web site which is needed to use the datacable to connect the Samsung A237 phone to a computer. This was free.
The datacable is well worth the price at Amazon and allows the maintenance of information on the phone using the Samsung PC Studio 3 utility. This cable allows the phone to be charged via the USB port on the computer it is connected to as well as use the phone as a modem for connecting to the Internet. Ring tones can be downloaded from computer to the phone and managed also. Information on the phones SIM, phonebook, addresses, calendar, messages, and mulitmedia files can all be managed from a computer screen using PC Studio 3.

(More customer reviews)The cable does what it's supposed to do & that is, links to desktop and/or laptop computer - but you do have to download the drivers from the Pantech website before you can download files from phone to computer or vice versus. It also recharges the battery, so for all the idiots out there that complain "this cable is just a power cable" - try downloading drivers if you want to do more than just recharge the battery in your phone. Yes, I read reviews before making my purchase & thought it was pretty funny that some folks think just by hooking the cable up to the phone and a computer without installing drivers, it would do more than charge the battery.
The Pantech software is SWEET too, really nice layout & multi-function to boot.
