(More customer reviews)OS auto-installed the driver for the Richo chip that this card uses, on first boot, without feeding it the driver disk. If whatever pcmcia card ye use, can't find the resources to play nice, just swap this card to a different PCI slot and you'll be fine. Sometimes yer computer's nit-picky where it likes which cards to be. One small Caveat: This picture's wrong. It shows a double height slot for taking double thick cards. That's why I bought this'n over the others. But, that isn't what I got. Twas only single height slot. I had to remove the bracket & widen the slot out with a dremmel to fit my double thick Xircom card. Not a deal-breaker, but should be noted. Amazon's product descriptions are a bit skimpy where it counts sometimes . . . YMMV
Bottom line: A solid inexpensive solution to offer a second life to your extra PCMCIA cards.

(More customer reviews)I purchased this card as a last resort attempt to cure my wireless connection. We have a 2 family house with access points on the 1st and 2nd floor, it is not an overly large house but try as I might I could not get a consistent signal in parts of the house with the built in LAN card on my Gateway laptop. I moved the routers, tried different antennas, downloaded updated drivers, even bought a new router for downstairs, but would only get 1 or 2 bars in the living room, with multiple drops. As a last resort I thought, why not disable the on board wireless and try a wireless card?
My laptop does not have a PCMCIA card slot, so I was limited to wireless express. This was the least expensive card I could find.
All I can say is, it works great. No drops, strong signal even outside. For me this was a great purchase. On my Vista laptop I did not have to install any software it used the Windows software and was a turnkey fix.

Linksys WPC11 Instant Wireless-B Networking Adapter, PCMCIA Card Review

(More customer reviews)I bought the Linksys WPC11 to go into a Toshiba Tecra 780CDM notebook running Windows 98 SE. The network I have is an Airport Express bridge connected to a Belkin 4 port router. After following the instructions and installing the software, I got a couple error messages indicating that I couldn't have more than 6 TCP/IP configurations, and no more than 4 PPP configurations. But the software seemed to install just fine. However, I could only connect to the Airport basestation, but couldn't access the internet, nor the network.
I called Tech Support, and got a very polite and knowledgable service rep in about 5 minutes (on a Sunday night). He troubleshot the installation, and agreed that the software was installed correctly, and the card was working correctly. His diagnosis was that the card was communicating with the basestation, but not to the router. He suggested I speak to Belkin.
Then I called a friend, who suggested I open the Device Manager and remove all the network devices. When I restarted the computer, only 2 (out of an original 6) were recognized by Windows, and it installed both devices. Then I connected to the Airport Basestation, and voila! Full connectivity and compatibility!
I take away 1 star because Tech Support was not able to correctly identify and fix the problem. Otherwise, this is an excellent card, and can be found at an excellent price.

(More customer reviews)I like this little gem. I had a PCI wireless card for my desktop that was several years old and no longer supported by the manufacturer. I needed to upgrade, but I wanted a USB wireless adapter this time around. I wanted to get it out from the bottom of my desk so I could a better signal. I had certain requirements for my new purchase. It couldn't cost any more than $45. It had to be USB. And it had to have some sort of USB extention cable or cradle. It had to be reviewed by Windows Vista users. It also had to have excellent reception. I don't have a big house, but there were a lot of walls and electronics near and in between the Access Point and my computer.
After searching I found the DLink Wireless G adapater fit the bill. I picked it up for $30 (at least $10 less than local stores). All of the reviews talked about great reception, even indepent review sites. And it had the USB craddle I was looking for. I bought it and got free shipping along with it! What a Deal!
I've had this little gem installed for about one month now, I coudn't be happier. It gets great reception. This adapter runs absolutely great with Vista. I am also using the included connection software and it plays very well with Vista.
The only downside is the optional craddle. It requires either a direct computer USB port, or a powered USB hub with an external power supply. It draws more mA than a non-powered hub can handle (at least it did on mine). I had to use the power supply on my USB hub to get the craddle to work. This is the only reason I give it 4 stars instead of 5.
I highly recommend this product. You will not be disappointed.

It works nearly as well as an Intel PRO Wireless card I had in another machine, able to pick up signals from next door strong enough for everyday browsing and a little downloading on the side. The catch is you just have to go to the manufacturer website to get the latest drivers instead of using the CD it comes with (at least for Windows 7 64bit).
A little larger than your thumbnail, it is a very subtle addition to a laptop or a virtually invisible one for desktops, and with the size of the thing I think you'll get the most bang for your buck out of this tiny wireless antenna.

To solve the mystery of how you can get gain out of what might appear to be a omni-directional whip: This is a collinear antenna which has coils built into it so that it acts like several vertical antennas are stacked on top of one another, each creating more gain as the radiation pattern is squashed down into the shape of a toroid or doughnut so that little power is received or transmitted either directly above or below the antenna and instead concentrated in a band around the center. If the Wi-Fi antenna you want to receive from is elevated above you then you would want this kind of a antenna to be swiveled in such a manner as to put the whip at a 90 degree orientation to the remote station to allow signal reception or transmission off of the sides of the whip where the power is greatest.
Due to the way the receive and transmit pattern is in the shape of a toroid or doughnut this type of antenna can give good gain while at the same time being omni-directional, except above and below the antenna where you don't need to waste the power anyway. If you want a antenna which has much higher gain look for a more directional antenna such as the flat panel antennas, Yagi or a parabolic reflector type of antenna which depending upon the size, can have 20 dB (or more) of gain which is a factor of 100 making a 100 milliwatt or 1/10 of a watt signal seem as powerful as a 10 watt signal, or a 1 watt signal as powerful as 100 watts. If you buy a flat panel Wi-Fi antenna and get one rated for 20 dBi of gain the half power beam width for both receive and transmit will be about 20 degrees. With a 20 dBi gain flat panel directional antenna, if you point it 10 degrees to the left or right from where it should be pointed for maximum signal you will have the equivalent of 17 dB of gain but that apparent gain will quickly drop off the further away the antenna is pointed from the proper direction. Note: It is a coincidence that a 20 dBi gain antenna has a 20 degree wide half power beamwidth, normally gain and half power beamwidth do not correlate to the same numbers except in the case of a 20 dBi gain antenna.
If you want to receive or transmit to two different locations at the same time but want each to have the best signal possible using a single high gain flat panel antenna, you can cut the difference between them sacrificing some of the gain to each one and point the antenna to an area in the middle. As long as the two stations are close enough together to be within a healthy portion of the antennas area of gain this should work out fine. Obviously, you wouldn't expect to be able to use that antenna for two different locations if one was behind you and the other in front but if both are within 30 degrees from you and not too far away a 20 dBi gain antenna could be used by cutting the difference between them. If they are too far separated in azimuth direction from you use a high gain collinear antenna with more power on each end, or perhaps using a lower gain antenna which has a much wider beamwidth or separate antennas for each radio shot. You can also use a splitter designed for 2.4 GHz and combine the receive and transmit from two separate antennas together into one feedline going back to your equipment, if necessary, but there will be a 3+ dB penalty or loss of signal level when doing so but to me this seems like the best solution if you need all the gain you can get from a flat panel or highly directional antenna to each station when using a common or single Wi-Fi transmitter and receiver such as a LinkSys or other wireless router.
Here is a good rule of thumb for line of sight radio shots without buildings or other terrain in between, every time you half the distance you increase the received power from a remote location by six dB, or if you double the distance you lose six more dB of signal level. In areas where there are trees and buildings or hills between each location this rule does not apply as the signal losses can be very great for short distances.

(More customer reviews)I got the wireless card for my PC and installed it with minor difficulty. It worked just "OK" for 8 months or so. Within that time period I had to troubleshoot with Belkin technical support about 4 times. They were nice, maybe a bit condescending. The fact is that I do not have a second job maintaining my computer and I expect the support to be supportive without making me feel like a dummy. But, those are minor annoyances at best.
Anyway, after the 8 months or so my computer unexpectedly froze and I could not get on my network, yet the wireless networks of my neighbors COULD be found. Huh? I called Belkin and (to their credit) they did not pretend to not know what the problem was. With little hesitation they said the card was defective. I was transferred three times and told they would replace it at no cost. While at this point I did not want any more Belkin products, since they were replacing it at no cost to me...what did I have to lose?
OK, they asked for a credit card number so that if I didn't return my defective card in 20 days they would charge my card $43 and change. That seemed fair. We did this arrangement on a Wednesday afternoon. However, less than two hours later I was looking at my records and saw they already charged me for the card! I called back and said I did not understand...Blekin told me one thing and did another...major pet peeve of mine! I asked them to stop the order and just credit my card. No one asked me WHY, but I didn't care anymore. Just credit me. I was placed on hold while they "undid" the order placed two hours earlier. Grrrrrr.
The customer service person said that he undid the order, but they would have to call me back this afternoon to confirm my cancellation...ISN'T THAT WHAT WE WERE DOING NOW???? Guess who didn't get a call?
I received an e-mail the next day about how to return my defective card after I receive the new one. I e-mailed back that I had cancelled and did and just wanted my credit. No one responded. I e-mailed again on Saturday. No word again.
On Monday I got an e-mail saying that the card already shipped and that there was nothing they could do! I tried to reach this particular customer service person and ...gasp...she was not at her desk! I sent her an e-mail telling her the entire situation and that I would not buy Belkin EVER again.
Never heard back on that. By the way, I was frustrated but not venting in my e-mail. I had legitimate gripes!
I received the card but left it in the box...went and added my defective card and copies of my previous e-mails and mailed it to Belkin...they rec'd it two weeks ago and have yet to credit me. I called cust service a few days ago and gave them my return authorization number, my case number, and the tracking number to prove the cards were rec'd by Belkin. The cust service person even complimented me on my having all the info. AUGH! He said he would send my request to be credited to the return dept and since I had all the info I should see a credit in a couple of days.
No such luck. This isn't about $43. This is about a company that promises one thing and then hangs up the phone and does another. I still have the router, but will be donating that soon. I *did* ask for a company credit in lieu of the card, and that would have been fine, but then it is not transferrable and I am not planning on going anywhere near Belkin products again. I had hoped to donate the credit with the router and maybe someone in need would have better luck.
Forget about it. STAY AWAY. I so wish I had spent a few bucks more for a better company and product. If I could give Belkin zero stars, I would.

It took some time to find the correct download/installation drive from the ones available online. However, the product has boosted whatever signal I have considerably. Although I still have the occasional trouble with my wireless signal dropping out entirely this happens with far less regularity as before. The program itself for wireless utility is easy to use and the adapter makes for a small and transportable addition to my laptop accessories. Overall much better than without, though not perfect.

(More customer reviews)I was inmpressed with the adapter till I connected it to my laptop. I installed the driver and the device worked right away. Then I wasn't impressed at all. The signal strength was very LOW and my connection was poor. I was only 20 feet away from my wireless router. I even tried moving the devices to gain teh signal strength but nothing worked. I turned off this device and turn on the internal laptop WIFI. The signal strenght was HIGH and my connection was excellent. I went back to the GSI adapter and the signal strenght did not improve. My connection never did get better than LOW. I am returning this adapter am may try a different one. Not impressed at all. Even updated the drivers from their website. Nothing work and my skill level is very advanced. My career is networking and I have an extensive background in RF as well.

Plugged it in, popped in the disc, entered my password after it found my Evo and done, just that easy and works great. Full signal from across the house. ( An Evo is a cell phone HTC EVO 4G Android Phone (Sprint), for those that don't know, and it can be a WiFi hub, using it's connection for internet.) Absolutley worth every penny. I have even gamed with this setup, playing Bad Company 2. Granted it was a small server but it worked well.

(More customer reviews)This was my second try at a long range wifi antenna. My previous purchase was a "802.11g USB WiFi Wireless Lan Adapter w/5dBi Antenna", which failed miserably. So far, in the last few weeks, this has been pretty good at detecting signals. Installation was a breeze on the Windows XP laptop. Only suggestion would be to make this connect directly to the usb port instead of using a long wire -- would make a cleaner look.
