(More customer reviews)Not at all happy with this device. The claim "compatible with all serial devices" the reality is it is not . I wanted to connect my LaserWriter to my iMac (serial to USB). After much frustration I called Belkin and was told that this product does not support LaserWriter printers. Belkin was not very helpful and returning the product means I am out the shipping. If you are considering this product call to get specific compatiblity specs.

(More customer reviews)This product is useless since my laptop runs XP and the manufacturer has still not posted updated XP drivers on their website. Any attempt to e-mail them results in bounced messages due to them "going over their mail quota". Gee, I wonder why. There are probably many other unhappy customers out there.

Belkin USB SERIAL PORT ADAPTER ( F5U409-CU ) Review

(More customer reviews)Can't get my new laptop to recognize a serial transcription pedal plugged into the USB via the Belkin because there is no Windows 7 driver. It's not mentioned on the CD that came with the cable. Nor is there a Windows 7 driver available on the Belkin site. Works fine on an old XP machine but that's not the one I bought the cable for since that pc also has serial. Windows 7 has been out a while so I wonder if Belkin even plans on creating drivers for that OS for its existing cables.

IOGEAR RS-232 Serial Adapter with Bluetooth Wireless Technology GBS301 (Black) Review

This serial adapter has a DB9 male connector in the DTE pinout.
I purchased this adapter to plug into the console ports of various computers and network switches so it should've been a DB9 female connector in the DCE pinout. Clearly, they realized this so they provide a female to female null modem adapter (most null modem adapters are male to female).
Unfortunately they left pin 9 unconnected as would be the case in most null modem cables and most null modems, although this is normally a reasonable precaution, this device derives it's power from pin 9 which being unconnected, does not work very well. To account for this oversight, they've provided an external power adapter with an european to US plug adapter, not a very portable solution, nor is it very wireless solution.
The product is still usable if you build your own female to female null modem adapter with pin 9 connected through.

(More customer reviews)I bought this and its female/female equivelant to supplement my work toolkit as I had a recent job that required a serial uplink for testing and these work great at converting an otherwise basic DB9 Serial cable to its various forms so that I would always have the right connectivity when I need it most. Going to Radio Shack cost me almost $40 for a cable and set of gender changers. I think I got this for a nominal $3.00 online.

(More customer reviews)Installed the configuration software, plugged it in, and it worked immediately. I am using it with WinXP Service Pack 2, and it communicates great with a complex serial interface to an unusual piece of electronics I have, so its very compatible with "real" serial ports, unlike some other adapters I have tried that seem to only work with modems or PDA docks. The adapter as shipped is actually a small 1"x1.5"x3" box connected to your computer with a 3' USB cable that can be unplugged from it. It has a green LED on top to tell you when it is properly configured as well as when a program has opened that serial port and when it is passing data. Very functional and easy to use; the configuration software even includes tests to make sure the device is recognized and is properly communicating with your computer. The configuration software also ensures that the same COM port is assigned to the device, no matter which USB port on your computer you plug it into each time, unlike previous adapters I've had which created a different COM port each time you plugged the device into a different USB port (very annoying); the driver also has an option to behave like those other drivers, but most people will probably want to always have it act like the same COM port, the default.
