Dekcell USB to DB25 (Female) Parallel Printer Cable Adapter Review

(More customer reviews)The cable for my HP Laserjet 4Plus printer ends with a 25 pin male DB25 plug, which is not accepted by modern notebooks like my HP Pavilion dv6500. I decided therefore to order a Dekcell Cable (DC), plug my printer cable into the female DB25 end of the DC, and then plug the USB end of the DC into the notebook. The cable comes in a box labeled WanTeng, and the writing on the box advertises "Includes driver for today's most popular operating systems".
Unfortunately, the box is dated 2003, and examples of "modern operating systems" pictured on the box are Windows98 and Windows2000. This worried me at first, since the operating systems on my two computers are Windows Vista and Windows XP. However, it turned out that there was no need for a driver. Ignoring the CD enclosed in the box, I simply plugged in the DC, chose a USB port for the printer, and the printer worked (both with Vista and XP). There are cables like this for over $30 which are a little longer, but 3 feet was plenty for me, so I've been quite happy with this cable (and the price under $7).

Black USB to RS232 Serial 9 Pin DB9 high speed Cable Adapter, New Review

(More customer reviews)As computers advance, you see less RS232 ports available in a typical PC. You may need these ports for various tasks, such as connecting card readers, elder hardware, etc. To make situation even worse, computer manufacturers limit amount of available PCI slots, so you can't just plug in extension card. Only choice is to get PCI-E RS232 card, which is still quite uncommon.
The card reviewed has 2 external and 2 internal slots, which means, that besides the external devices, you can connect also internal devices to it, such as card readers. Previous reviewer complains that there was no information how to connect internal connectors correctly. This is wrong. If you look at PCB, you'll see small white triangle near the each connector. This is the marking, where the red stripe on connection cable should be matching. This is rule of thumb in PC world for last 20 years at least, so if you need such a specific device, than you should know also connection pinouts.
The driver installation went OK, and card itself works properly.

StarTech USB to RS232 DB9 Serial Adapter Cable - M/M (ICUSB232) Review

The Startech Brand is the ONLY one I have found that works with;
All PLC Brands, AllenBradley, Siemens, Modicon, etc. etc.
Servos, Indramat, Siemens, AB, etc. etc.
I have tried MANY Brands. None of them work for Controls Engineering. I think it is because most of them are tested for the most popular purpose, which is PDA syncing.
If you are looking for one of these for Programming of any Industrial Device, Then this is the One.
Be warned though, One of the Sellers I bought from CablesOnline right here on Amazon switched the Brand on me without warning me, and the brand they sent me did not work. So after you place your order send a message to the Seller Stating that you must have Startech Cables. Unless you are using them for PDA sync then buy anything.

(More customer reviews)I bought this and its female/female equivelant to supplement my work toolkit as I had a recent job that required a serial uplink for testing and these work great at converting an otherwise basic DB9 Serial cable to its various forms so that I would always have the right connectivity when I need it most. Going to Radio Shack cost me almost $40 for a cable and set of gender changers. I think I got this for a nominal $3.00 online.
