RCA DOCSIS External Cable Modem (DCM226) Review

RCA DOCSIS External Cable Modem (DCM226)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Quite frankly, this is a horrible piece of hardware. I've had it for about 14 months now and it's given me nothing but headaches. For one thing, it consistently drops the cable signal about once every other week. How do I know this is not a problem with the cable company? My girlfriend has the same ISP, same LAN setup, the only difference is our cable modems (she has the a Zoom 5011 cable modem) and she NEVER drops her signal.
In addition to this, the incredibly poor design of the power dongle that attaches to the modem will cause you headaches to no end. Mine is so sensitive, that even slight movement of my desk will cause the modem to physically reset. This is absurd! I can't even touch the modem without having it reset because the power dongle is so sensitive to disturbances.
On top of all this, it tends to lose the connection when there is heavy traffic. For example, I've had many LAN parties at my house where we've played online games with 4-6 machines. After about 1-2 hours, the connection will simply die and the modem will require a reboot.
It's causing me more headaches now as I am running an in house server that I'm using as the development server for one of my classes. It is consistently dying due to the aforementioned power dongle issue, thus causing problems for the rest of the group memebers who need to access the server to develop on it.
Bottom line, you're better off getting the Zoom 5011 or Toshiba PCX2200. My RCA modem is getting replaced ASAP! I don't know how I put up with it for so long.

This is a great product, never has any down time. We have had one of these for several years, and it has always been very reliable. As stated since all the programming is done through telnet, the programming can be confusing sometimes, but once set you are good to go.

Motorola SLVR L7 Unlocked Phone with Camera, MP3/Video Player, and MicroSD Slot--International Version with No Warranty (Black) Review

Motorola SLVR L7 Unlocked Phone with Camera, MP3/Video Player, and MicroSD Slot--International Version with No Warranty (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is a very nice phone. Call reception and battery life are excellent on the Cingular network. The iTunes features work fine but it won't replace my iPod nano any time soon. This phone has a very solid feel to it. The SLVR is not without flaws but show me a phone that isn't.
PROS:
Very solid, slim and sexy.
iTunes
Quad band
Expandable memory
Excellent reception
Excellent battery life
Bluetooth
CONS:
Camera (0.3 megapixel is pathetic in this day and age)
No high speed data (EDGE)
100 song cap on iTunes (not shocking, Apple still wants to sell iPods)
No dedicated headphone jack ( form over function compromise)
USB 1.1 transfer is VERY slow
Same old Moto OS ( Contacts list Stinks)
Conclusion:
If you're looking for a very sexy looking phone that has excellent reception and battery life I can think of no better choice than the SLVR. If you need a smart phone or all the latest bells and whistles there are better choices.

If you thought the RAZR V3 was cool, you'll love the latest addition to Motorola's line of super-chic, super-powerful phones--the SLVR L7. Packing all the great functionality of the RAZR V3, plus a few more bells and whistles like removable memory, the SLVR L7 adopts a thin, candy-bar form factor that is sure to turn heads. The SLVR L7 also adds support for iTunes, allowing you to play, sort, store and manage your music right on the phone. With long-range Bluetooth, support for video playback, a VGA (640 x 480) camera and a gorgeous color screen it's a must-have phone for those who want to stay on the cutting edge.
Design At less than a half-inch thick, the SLVR L7 redefines the ultrathin phone category. A large 176 x 220 color display with 262,000 colors resides above the handset's backlit control pad, which is precision cut from a single sheet of nickel-plated copper alloy. The VGA camera lens is housed on the rear of the phone, while up/down buttons are placed on the left side. There's also a highly accessible mini-USB port on the right side of the phone for data synchronization and music transfer, as well as a covered slot for inserting a microSD or TransFlash memory card.
Calling Features The SLVR L7's internal phone book can hold up to 1000 contacts while the phone's picture ID system allows you to assign pictures to your most common callers. It also supports polyphonic ringtones as well as music ringers, allowing you to use portions of your favorite songs to alert you to incoming calls. And for times when you want to be discreet, there's a vibrating alert. A built-in speakerphone makes it easy to talk without having the phone to your ear, while voice activated dialing makes calling your friends, family, and associates as easy as saying their names.
Because the SLVR L7 is Bluetooth enabled, wireless headsets can be configured with the phone for total hands-free operation.
Messaging, Internet, and Tools The SLVR L7 is a messaging and wireless Internet powerhouse. Support is built in for sending and receiving pictures, text, graphics, sound, and video via messages. When used in combination with the phone's built-in still and video camera, MMS opens up a whole new world of messaging fun. Instant messaging is supported and the phone ships with a built-in e-mail client with support for POP3 and SMTP protocols (carrier messaging charges may apply). Plus, there's a built-in Web browser for downloads and mobile Web browsing. iTap text entry, which is a technology that makes it easier for people to enter words and text on handsets, is built into the unit--a plus for mobile e-mail and text messaging users.
When used with a carrier data plan and the phone's Bluetooth or USB data capability, the phone can be used as a wireless modem for laptops and PDAs.
A number of handy software tools are bundled with the SLVR L7, including a calculator, a calendar, and an alarm clock. Use the phone's Bluetooth capability to set up a wireless link with a Bluetooth accessory or connect to a computer or hand-held device to exchange and synchronize data. The phone also supports the SyncML PC synchronization standard, which can be used with Motorola's Mobile Phone Tools PC application to manage and synchronize contacts, calendar, and other data with your PC.
Imaging and Entertainment With 5 MB of internal memory storage, plus a memory expansion slot, the SLVR L7 shines in the entertainment department. The phone's VGA camera features a 4x digital zoom, as well as video capture capabilities (up to 30 seconds in length). The phone is capable of MPEG4 video playback when you receive a video message, or if you upload video to the phone via USB or Bluetooth. The SLVR L7 also supports custom graphics for wallpapers so you can dress up the phone to suit your mood.

WESTELL INFOSPEED DSL MODEM BELL ATLANTIC MODEL B90-36R515-01 Review

WESTELL INFOSPEED DSL MODEM BELL ATLANTIC MODEL B90-36R515-01
Average Reviews:

I've used this modem since DSL came out, I still use it.
It's built like a tank and probably fair to say that it's better than using a new dsl modem. Also, there is no router inside, which is good. There is no complicated settings, you merely hook this up to a router.
There is no USB port. Simply hook this up to the wan port of a router.
I have used this modem 24/7 for more years then I can count.

Motorola Mobile tools 4.0 + SKN6371 Review

Motorola Mobile tools 4.0 + SKN6371

I have the Razr v3. I wanted to backup and edit phone numbers primarily. Being able swap music and picture files is a bonus. Charging the phone via USB is a bonus. The Date book functionality on the phone is weak so I am unable to use this part of the software utility to its fullest.
Word of advice...Motorola Phone Tools 4.0 Software will call out for a software update for the computer......BUT it will not update the driver on the phone. You must right click the phone Icon (while the phone is pluged into the USB port) and do this yourself.

Motorola SB4101 SURFboard Cable Modem Review

Motorola SB4101 SURFboard Cable Modem
Average Reviews:

A few years back, I got one of these modems for free as part of a deal when signing up for cable internet. It only lasted a few months before it started crapping out and losing its connection. Sometimes the connection was slower than dial-up even when the modem showed a good connection. I ended up buying a Linksys modem/router combined unit and it worked great.

Netopia 3347-02 ADSL2 Wireless Router Review

Netopia 3347-02 ADSL2 Wireless Router
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
As others have mentioned, the product is not new(had an @bellsouth.net PPoE login for a business), but don't let that deter you. It works with no problems on AT&T in West Tennessee. Just make sure you set the correct VPI/VCI settings(VPI 8, VCI 35 for Tennessee, VPI 0 for some other states), put in your PPoE Username and Password, and you are done.
Just to be safe, it would probably be a good idea to factory reset the modem as soon as you get it, no telling what other settings may be lurking in there.
This modem was used to replace a 2Wire 2700HG that was, well, terrible(Unstable, forgets wireless password, drops packets under light wireless usage). I had been using the Qwest model 3347 for the past two years before moving back to Tennessee, so replacing the 2Wire with this was a no-brainer. I replaced the 2Wire at my brother's house with the 3347 from Amazon and it solved his issues as well. I have since ordered another two units for future use/spares.
As a side note for @att.net customers. If you do not know your PPoE password(It is randomly generated by AT&T when you sign up, not chosen by you) just enter a random password. Your modem will still connect, but you will be placed in AT&T's walled garden. Open up your browser and go to any website, it will redirect you to AT&T's internal troubleshooting site. After you verify your DOB or SSN, it will try to determine your modem model for about 10 minutes and say that it cannot. Select that you have a modem from a different source and it will give you your PPoE login information. There is no need to call AT&T.

Motorola Wireless Notebook Adapter WN825G Review

Motorola Wireless Notebook Adapter WN825G
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this card as it was on sale and I got it for $9.99 I was expecting Windows XP Pro to recognize the card as soon as inserted it but it didn't. I had to use the installation CDROM that came with it. Installation was a breeze.
One of the first things I came to know when using the card was its limited range. I have a Linksys WRT54G wireless router and it is placed high enough from the ground with minimal obstruction. Compared to the Cisco AIR-CB21AG-A-K9 (which I already have) the range of this card is very less.
Other issue I had was the software to control the card. If you decide to use the motorola's wireless utility to configure the wireless connection, the connection is flaky and the connection is dropped frequently. However, if you use Windows to confgiure the wireless connection then connection does not drop that frequently.
Overall I give it a 3 stars.

Motorola External Cable Modem (SB4200) Review

Motorola External Cable Modem (SB4200)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was renting the Motorola SB3100 and replaced it with this model. Installation was as simple as calling the cable company with the new MAC address, plugging in the cables, and turning on the computer.
Now that I will not be paying a monthly modem rental, this modem will pay for itself in just a few months.
This modem also has a couple features that the SB3100 did not. It is upgradeable to DOCSIS 1.1 and it has a standby button that allows you to cut your computer from the internet without powering down.

Click Here to see more reviews about: Motorola External Cable Modem (SB4200)

The Motorola SB4200 SURFboard cable modem supplies both Ethernet and USB interface connectivity to ensure compatibility with almost any network-ready PC computer system. It requires only a standard HTML browser on your computer, making it virtually platform independent. With the SB4200, most PCs, Macs, and other computers can be easily connected to any network. The SB4200 supports the 64 and 256 QAM link technology that is the heart of the DOCSIS data network, providing up to 38 Mbps of raw data transfer rates in a single 6 MHz channel.
The SB4200 simplifies installation with USB connectivity, and provides enhanced security with its top-mounted standby button. The button disconnects the USB and Ethernet connection to the computer without disconnecting the cable modem from the RF network, providing security, flexibility, and performance. An easy-to-use standby button has been relocated to the top of the SB4200 for additional end-user security and convenience.
Note: If in doubt, contact your cable Internet provider to verify that this modem will be compatible with their system.

This modem is on the comcast approved list, but it actually doesn't work. I got it, and had to return it after the comcast folks told me it had reached its end of life.
Very frustrating and annoying experience.
(more annoying though is the fact that comcast won't sell me the modem they already leased to me!)

Comcast Netgear Wireless Cable Modem Gateway CG814WG Review

Comcast Netgear Wireless Cable Modem Gateway CG814WG
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The unit works as expected. I use Comcast which lists this unit as compatible. It was setup and running in seconds with our Unix (Linux) operated computers, the Windows one took a few minutes, better than expected if I may say so.
I like the small design, woud rather have it standing straight up, mine did not come with supporting legs.
There is no power switch on the unit, it stays on all the time. Not only a waste of energy and additional wear on the unit, it also makes the network visible all day.
Bottom line: It is a more affordable product and works fine. No need to go go DOCSIS 3 as in my case my provider does not have it setup yet. I recommend to check with your provider first before spending money on DOCSIS 3. Same with wireless "N", no need for it if you are not setup yet, that includes the computers you are about to connect as well.
